Children need exercise
A recent study found that just 1 in 10 children of school age achieve the recommended one hour a day of exercise.
It is thought that if this situation is left unchanged half of all English children will be obese by 2020, with health problems causing many to die prematurely.
A Department of Health spokeswoman has said that the findings in the report would be carefully studied in order to halt the rise in obesity among children.
A number of schemes are in place to increase exercise among young people and the government wants all school pupils to receive two hours of PE and sport a day by 2010.
