Returning to work after injury
Most experts agree that returning to work as soon as possible after an injury or extended sick leave will be beneficial to long-term health and happiness as it will restore confidence, increase self-esteem and provide you with peace of mind from the financial security it brings. However for many people returning to work is a daunting prospect, but if you do things correctly you could make things a lot easier for yourself.
Firstly you should speak to your employer if you have any concerns. If you can’t return to your original work, there might be alternative work they could give you. Or you might be able to do your job but need the hours reduced until you are fully fit.
Ultimately if you communicate with your employer and make it clear that you want to work, and they are a fair and conscientious employer they will make reasonable adjustments to accommodate you back into the work place.
With the advice of your doctor, the support of your friends and family, and with good communication between yourself and your employer, returning to work should be a good experience for you and will play a healthy part in your long-term recovery.
