Work related injury compensation success
Drivers for a Gas company secured compensation for back injuries caused as a result of laptops poorly fitted into their vans. A number of drivers pursued claims against their company, who refused to admit responsibility for the injuries.
The men, all service engineers, had to use the laptops to log call outs. As a security measure, the laptops were secured to the bottom of the passenger seat, meaning that the laptop could only be positioned on the passenger seat for use. Having to twist 90 degrees from the driving seat to use their computer soon resulted in back pain caused by over reaching, stretching and twisting. Having informed their employers of the issue, no action was taken by the company, meaning the men had a clear case for compensation.
