Cosmetic surgery new proposals
The Chief Medical Officer, Professor Sir Liam Donaldson has put forward proposals to ensure better training for doctors, more comprehensive information for patients and increased regulation of private cosmetic surgery. This follows the publication of the Expert Group Report on the Regulation of Cosmetic Surgery and The Healthcare Commission’s “Provision of cosmetic surgery in England”.Other organisations, including the Silicone Gel Breast Implant Review Group had called for the need for regulation of the industry.
Many Clinical Negligence claims are brought by patients that have suffered significant injury arising out of negligent cosmetic surgery treatment provided to them by a private plastic surgeon working at a clinic that may have attracted a patient by an advertisement in a magazine. If the clinic and/or surgeon provide an unacceptable standard of care to the patient which was the likely cause of the patients injury then a patient can succeed in a compensation claim. More often than not cases include claims not only physical injuries but also for mental trauma suffered.
Injury+ members have handled many claims for men and women who have suffered injury arising out of cosmetic surgery that has been performed negligently.
