Five year limit for HRT use urged

Hormone replacement therapy has hit the headlines once more, as the Telegraph and most other publications recently report on a new book, 'Menopause and Hormone Replacement', published by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, which outlines the risks involved with the treatment. An international group of scientists and health experts who helped put the book together have now concluded that the risks outweigh the benefits for women who do not suffer from the symptoms of the menopause, such as hot flushes and night sweats. The book has also stipulated that women should not take the treatment for longer than five years due to the increased risk of strokes and breast cancer.
